One of the many worries patients have before treatments, is one where they are worried about any possible side effects. Botox is a safe treatment, and was approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration {USA}) over 10 years ago. The risk of botulism, a very serious condition is extremely low when administered correctly.

There are no known serious side effects. From person to person side effects do vary, but some of the main effects most often seen are

  • dryness of the mouth
  • temporary blurred vision

One important point to note, Botox is a drug and not a cosmetic. If you are concerned further, then you can read this FDA info document about Botox. It does contain a potentially harmful bacterium, but when administered properly by trained professionals it does not pose a health risk. There are many myths about botox, but we would urge you to inform yourself before taking any treatment.  Botox is a safe treatment and when administered properly you won’t have anything to worry about. One caution we would have is that you should always insure that your doctor knows how to use the product and they are aware of what doses are safe.

Note: Botox is only approved for use for patients between the age of 18 and 65.
